I love shiny things and I love drawing them too! I love shiny things and I love drawing them too! And when I saw this beautiful runway look by Rick Owens @rickowensonline , shown at Paris fashion week just the other day, I immediately knew that’s a fashion trend outfit I want to paint an illustration of. Especially since the metallic teal and emerald color made such an amazing contrast to this beautiful model’s super dark skin. Trying to draw metallic surfaces may be intimidating but if you take a close look there are some simple principles to follow - which will create this amazing light and shadow effect. One of the main things you will want to do is always paint or draw darkest shadows directly beside the lightest reflection points. Also use a very light color (I used yellow and turquoise in this case) to surround your lights. Then paint with a very deep tone (here it’s blue and emerald green) around or close to the black parts.
