Auch die Male Models der ETRO Herbst/Winter 21/22 Show liefen diesmal ohne Publikum. Bemerkenswert ist natürlich, dass sie überhaupt einen klassischen Runway liefen, da viele Designer gerade auf verschiedene Arten von Fashion-Film setzen. Mir hat diese Präsentation aber außerordentlich gut gefallen, da sie zwar minimal, aber voller Wärme war. Durch farbige Folien auf den Fenstern der Fabriketage entstand ein warm glühender Farbverlauf von tiefem Karminrot über Orange bis Gelb. Erst am Ende des Catwalk herrschte natürliches Licht und die komplette Farbpalette der Kleidung kam zum Vorschein.

ETRO ist berühmt für seine Paisley Stoffe, und ich oute mich hier mal als Riesen Paisley Fan! Was ich unbedingt haben möchte: die Aktentasche aus Look 1, die Hose aus Look 3 und den Gürtel aus Look 5. Ich glaub, das passt hervorragend zusammen!

Ein wenig hatte ich das Gefühl, dass das Ganze in einer Etage meines Ateliergebäudes hier in Berlin – Kreuzberg entstanden ist: EXAKT die gleichen Fenster und der Blick nach draussen kommt mir auch irgendwie vertraut vor. (Ich glaub ich frag mal bei meinen Kollegen im Gebäude rum, wer hier für ETRO Platz gemacht hat 😉

The male models of the ETRO FW21/22 show also walked without audience this time. Of course, it is remarkable that they walked a classic runway at all, as many designers are just going for different types of fashion film. However, I exceptionally liked this presentation as it was minimal but full of warmth. Colored film on the windows of the factory floor created a warm glowing gradient of colors from deep crimson to orange to yellow. Only at the end of the catwalk did natural light prevail and the full color palette of the clothes emerged. ETRO is famous for their paisley fabrics, and I’m a huge paisley fan! What I definitely want to have: the briefcase from look 1, the pants from look 3 and the belt from look 5. I think it goes great together! A little bit I had the feeling that the whole thing was created on one floor of my studio building here in Berlin – Kreuzberg: EXACTLY the same windows and the view outside seems somehow familiar to me, too. (I think I’ll ask my colleagues in the building around, who has made room here for ETRO 😉

Die Protagonisten sind mit voluminösen Parkas und Daunenjacken gegen den eisigen Wind dieser Parallelwelt gewappnet. Ihre Beine stecken in glänzenden Ritterrüstungen in Silber und Gold – für die weiblichen Models auch noch mit einem extrahohen Absatz. 

Die Looks haben eine derartige Energie, dass ich meine 5 Favoriten regelrecht im Rausch auf das Papier geworfen habe. Meine Illustrationen sind diesmal mit Pinselmarker, Aquarell und Gouachefarbe entstanden. 

Power from Outer Space! The looks and models of Balenciaga’s FW21/22 show are avatars that not only seem to have sprung from a video game, they are actually part of one. „Afterworld“ was released right along with the collection for the upcoming winter. 

The protagonists are armed against the icy wind of this parallel world with voluminous parkas and down jackets. Their legs are in shining knight’s armor in silver and gold – for the female models also with an extra-high heel. 

The looks have such energy that I literally threw my 5 favorites onto the paper in a frenzy. My illustrations this time were done with brush marker, watercolor and gouache paint.

Fortunately, the suits are not as blocky as in many a classic Hollywood movie, but nestle gently around the body, especially at the waist. In addition, there are bomber jackets and combat boots, and so that it doesn’t become too coarse and martial, the models Noah Louis Brown, Brandon Good and Alexis Chaparro contribute a dash of delicacy for all their masculinity. But then Jeremy Scott reaches for the paint buckets and the big brush. And goes over his looks in great sweeps, so that the paint just splashes. And emphasizes the folds that the leather of the jackets throws, the lapels of the jackets all the way down to the boots. Following this logic, for my look in this lookbook, I threw the gouache paint loosely on the drawings only at the very end, after capturing all that lies beneath Jeremy Scott’s brush attack in loose colored pencil sketches.

Unfortunately, the collection was not published as a runway show, but already one day before the official start of Milano Fashion Week as a lookbook.

Die Geschichten, die Jeremy Scott erzählt, strotzen nur so von Referenzen. Er verschleiert seine Inspirationen nicht, sondern serviert sie uns immer auf dem Silbertablett. Und läßt uns dabei genauso viel Spaß haben, wie er es offensichtlich selbst beim Entwerfen seiner Looks hat. Für die FW 2021/22 Kollektion der Männer hat er für MOSCHINO mit Sicherheit eine ganze Menge Comics aus den 30ern und 40ern gelesen. Und darunter waren nicht nur ein paar Hefte Prohibitions-Dick Tracy, sondern bestimmt auch ein paar Zeichnungen von Tom of Finland. Die Anzüge sind dann zum Glück doch nicht so blockig geworden, wie in so manchem Classic-Hollywood Film, sondern schmiegen sich gerade in der Taille ganz sanft um den Körper. Dazu gibt es Bomberjacken und Springerstiefel und damit es nicht zu grob und martialisch wird, steuern die Models Noah Louis Brown, Brandon Good und Alexis Chaparro bei aller Männlichkeit einen Schuß Zartheit bei. Aber dann greift Jeremy Scott zu den Farbeimern und dem großen Pinsel. Und zieht in großen Schwüngen über seine Looks her, dass die Farbe nur so spritzt. Und betont damit die Falten, die das Leder der Jacken wirft, die Aufschläge der Jackets bis hinunter zu den Stiefeln. Dieser Logik folgend, habe ich für meinen Blick auf dieses Lookbook die Gouache-Farbe erst ganz zum Schluss locker auf die Zeichnungen geworfen, nachdem ich all das, was unter Jeremy Scotts Pinselattacke liegt in lockeren Farbstift-Skizzen eingefangen hatte. 

Veröffentlicht wurde die Kollektion leider nicht als Runway-Show, sondern schon einen Tag vor dem offiziellen Start der Milano Fashion Week als Lookbook.

Auch wenn in diesem Jahr vieles anders ist – es geht wie immer los mit den Männerkollektionen auf der Fashion Week Milano, dort präsentieren Prada, Kiton, Fendi und viele andere. Direkt im Anschluss eröffnen die Runways der Männer Fashion Week in Paris, gefolgt von den Haute Couture Shows der Frauen. Spätestens dann sind alle wieder im Fashion Week Fieber.

Und was mache ich? Ich werde zeichnen, zeichnen, zeichnen und versuchen so viele interessante Looks wie möglich in meinen Illustrationen einzufangen und Euch damit einen Überblick zu geben, wohin die Reise geht. Denn die Farbpaletten, die neuen Ansätze, die dort gezeigt werden, an denen Designer und ihre Teams monatelang gearbeitet haben, werden schon bald unsere Alltagskleidung prägen.

Unsere Art sich zu kleiden ist ein ständig fliessender Prozess, bei dem es keinen Stillstand gibt. Genau dieser Arbeit der Designer nachzugehen und sie mit meinen Illustrationen, beim Zeichnen zu begreifen, macht mir einfach unheimlich viel Spaß. Und ich hoffe, ich kann mit Euch in diesen Tagen durch meine Bilder ein wenig von dieser Freude teilen!

In mid-January, when we’ve packed away the Christmas decorations again and it’s starting to feel weird to wish for a healthy new year, I ask myself: ok, so what’s next? In the process, of course, comes something – that’s right – Fashionweeks!

Even if this year a lot is different – it starts as always with the men’s collections at Fashion Week Milano, there Prada, Kiton, Fendi and many others present. Immediately afterwards, the men’s Fashion Week runways open in Paris, followed by the women’s haute couture shows. At the latest then all are again in the Fashion Week fever.

And what am I doing? I will draw, draw, draw and try to capture as many interesting looks as possible in my illustrations to give you an overview of where the journey is headed. Because the color palettes, the new approaches that are shown there, on which designers and their teams have worked for months, will soon shape our everyday clothes.

Our way of dressing is a constantly flowing process in which there is no standstill. Exactly to follow this work of the designers and to understand it with my illustrations, while drawing, makes me just incredibly much fun. And I hope I can share a little of this joy with you these days through my pictures!
